Bumpy Would Have Loved Google

Google Rents Goats was a headline here today. Sounds funny, but the story starts like this... Fred called me on his way home from work yesterday and says "Thats weird... I think I just drove by a field filled with hundreds of goats. That wasnt there before." Coming from Fred, not being one for meaningless chatter, that was the end of the conversation. But weird things happen in Silicon Valley... a blimp follows us to the park once a week and there is a pig farm a short walk away. And did I mention, crap/crack houses sell for a starting price $1.8mil.

But today a Trending Topic on Twitter (you arent on Twitter yet? Really? Why delay the inevitable?) was "Google Rents Goats". And I thought, that sounds familiar! Turns out Google rented a herd of about 200 goats to clear a field, instead of mowing it. The net effect was lower carbon emissions, and just plain coolness.  Im just picturing 200 goats with tummy aches at the end of the weekend.

I wonder if the downstream effect is landscaping companies starting goat tending businesses?

If you know me well, you know my family had a pet goat. Its true. Bumpy was a very loyal goat, kept all the dogs in line and freaked out visitors. "Uh,  is that a goat standing on top of my car" was one line that kept us Allen's in stitches. We'd say "He's harmless". "But, uh, what about the goat hoof shaped indentions on my hood".  Whats the big deal? Usually the dirty kitty prints cover that up. Apparently our goat is famous and has even inspired sermons, sparked childhood fears and appeared in parades. Just think, Bumpy could have been the start of an Agro-Green business venture, and look who's laughing at the people with the goat now!

But Bumpy was a good goat. Bumpy would have loved Google.

ps. Ill buy a plane ticket to San Jose for the first person who sends me a photo of Bumpy. Two tickets if he is standing on someones car! Photo above is NOT Bumpy, but the car closely resembles Joel's Volvo...
