Neither of the boys will eat PB&J (after a yr at a nut free school) and Archer wont eat lunch meat (I know its my fault, Im working on it). They like Chocolate Sandwiches, which is basically peanut butter made with hazelnut. But the other Mom's at school frequently comment that I let Archer eat that every day! They arent very nice comments.
So give me your best ideas for a well rounded healthy lunch that the kids might even eat!
Thanks! Amber
Having to pack Adam lunch and dinner for band camp. Does ‘lunch meat” = bologna? Adam doesn’t really like that…
ReplyDeleteThis what I’ve been packing for him..
Ciabatta bread that I slice for a sandwich.. .he doesn’t like mayo or mustard…so I’ve been drizzling a bit of olive oil and a dash of garlic powder..then about 4 slices of honey ham and smoked provolone.. He LOVES it. I include Gogurts…, seedless grapes…chips…and a cookie. I’ve also done honey ham and salami rolled up with cream cheese inside. String cheese, homemade salsa and chips. Adam doesn’t like celery…but likes carrots. What about pimento cheese on celery.. or cream cheese with raisins… bugs on a log…Also frozen juice boxes that keep things cold but are drinkable by lunch time.
Go to the deli counter and get a few THICK 3/4'” slices of Turkey and cube it up and just put it in a baggie…
Cream cheese and salsa makes a cool pink dip for veggies.
Tortillas with the pink dip and meat are good too.
They make really neat lunchables now…. Pizza flatbreads that you make yourself… dunkin chicken… hot dogs…
Just make sure they get carbs and protein (energy and feeling full) while they are away from you and then you can work on grains, dairy and veggies when they are with you. Also helps if you get them to help you make whatever they put in….
Wow...........that's a problem..........................I got it !!! Change Archers name to Mike. Mikes eat everything !!!! And a lot of it ........Boy, the lunch meat thing is an issue that could run you crazy. Why don't you cook up a bunch of chicken breasts and slice them thinly, and dress them differently each day. In fact if you can season them differently and freeze them so they aren't eating the same tasting chicken each day. Veggie sandwiches, cocktail hotdog's to dip in Mustard and ketchup, a ton of different fruits. We have started seasoning food differently with cumin/cilantro/and chili on chicken AND beef.......I remembered the taste of al rosconpollo when I was in Mexico in the 9th grade....it was great. You have to get the good food in them young or they will pay for it in later life. Good luck....
ReplyDeleteOkay. Here are some things we do at Be Your Best Girl Scout Fit and Fitness events. Let the kids make this: spread bread with peanut butter and have raisins, bananas and other fruit handy and they can make bionical faces (or self portraits) on the open-face peanut butter sandwich. The little smokies might be a hit. Do the biscuit pizza by pushing a small juice glass down into a canned or frozen (but thawed) biscuit dough and it forms a mini pizza crust. Fill with Ragu pizza filling and already cooked ground beef and shredded mozerella. Bake in oven for about 8 minutes till cheese melts and crust is slightly browned.
ReplyDeleteThen you could have a Safari hunt by telling them lunch is ready but you have to hunt it down. Use the mesh grape bags and tie delicious lunches in the trees and shrubs and they can make out like monkeys:-)
Hey Amber I take ;unch every day and of course i eat everything. I get fruit cups and yop;ait from sams. when ther is no fresh fruit I take dried apricots, crasins, V8, trail mix, or anything that doesn't bark.

See Dad, here is your message! I got it! Ive worked out a schedule of lunches (with no Chocolate Sandwiches) for a whole week with lots of options and new stuff. I made deal with them that they would get better snacks and after school treats if they eat the new things in their lunch boxes. Wish me luck!!
